Dear MEPIN readers,
President Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu today to discuss his 21-point plan—an aspirational framework aimed at reshaping the Middle East, extending far beyond a ceasefire or hostage release.
In my in-depth interview on ILTV, I examine not only the plan’s broad ambitions but also the thousands of unanswered details it leaves behind. Netanyahu will likely accept the framework, at least conditionally, since the release of hostages is front-loaded. When Hamas inevitably balks, it will provide Washington and Jerusalem an opening to go on the diplomatic offensive. Still, this alone will not be enough to offset European opposition, particularly if Israel continues evacuating Gaza City and pressing ahead with large-scale military operations.
As Michael Oren observed, the plan may be a “masterpiece of diplomacy,” but it will be irrelevant if Hamas refuses to play by the rules.
I invite you to watch the interviews and share your thoughts.
